Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm running Boston in less than 3 weeks and can't wait. I'm doing it just for fun, not for time. I've talked to too many people who have ran it who've told me to enjoy the experience, enjoy the scenery, enjoy the masses of people, the course, the architecture, everything, so that's my plan. I'll be running with a camera in my hand.

Beyond that I'm the Captain for the Moab Redrock Relay and the WB Ragnar Relay this year.

I'll be running St. George again this year with a good friend. She and I trained for my first marathon together. She recently had a baby and wants to do St. George together again. St. George wasn't originally in my plans for this year, but it is now!! **smile**

The only other BIG run I have tentatively planned is a half sometime between now in the year where I am hoping to qualify for NY next year. I'll need to average 8 min/miles for the 13.1 which is a stretch for me. I'm working toward it. I averaged 8:30 at TOU for Boston, but 8 is still more difficult. I can do 6-8 at that pace - just don't know if I can do it for 13.1. Just need to qualify at a downhill event I'm thinking. **smile**

Long-Term Running Goals:

Next year I'd like to run the New York marathon. Other than that just playing it by ear. I don't believe I'll do ultras. 26.2 feels good to me. Longer than that and my head can't grasp it yet.

Three years ago there's no way I would have believed I'd be running marathons. I was 170 pounds back then and in miserable embarrassingly much larger shape. :)

Personal:

I've been happily married for almost 20 years (in September), and have two amazing boys - one is 9 1/2 and the other is almost 2.

Other than running I love weigh training and competing in Figure.

Last December I published my first cookbook, "75 Ways to Love Your Oatmeal - Great Tasting Recipes that Keep You Lean".

I love my life and am so thankful the blessings I've received - especially since I've gotten my life back on track. I used to be the laziest least healthy person you'd ever met. In my 30s I gave up on me. I grew used to bad habits, poor eating, little to no exercise. I worried about it but did nothing to improve. It wasn't until I was almost 38 that I decided to make a change.

...and now I am sooo glad I did. No regrets.

I am not sure how to get the links to activate, so I am just listing them here and you can copy and paste. **smile** Help?

Today felt GREAT. It was supposed to be an easy run since I'm beginning my taper, but my legs wanted to go a little faster. I included some hill about mid-run but nothing too tough. For the most part a nice flat little faster than normal run.

Lily??? Is this a conspiracy? How embarrassing to me. She already thinks I'm a creeper before I even post a comment!

From Lily on Thu, Mar 31, 2011 at 12:02:01 from 67.199.178.210

Burt you are the most popular runner on the FRB, stop complaining and your pro-zac on home dog!

From Rob on Thu, Mar 31, 2011 at 14:44:11 from 206.71.84.68

Burt - just lookin' out for you.

Jen-Fit - Just click on stuff and eventually you'll figure it out. Try not to think FRB works like Facebook. It's designed to be a running log, the users have just turned it into Facebook for runners. But I doubt that's what Sasha had in mind when he created it.

It's all good. I was a bad blogger my first little while. I kinda had Burt reminding me to post I think for the first 9 months :)

From Burt on Tue, Apr 05, 2011 at 14:39:31 from 206.19.214.144

Don't ever forget, that I made you the superstar you are today Lily. The question Jen needs to ask herself is this: Do I want to be famous?

From Jen-Fit on Tue, Apr 05, 2011 at 14:39:54 from 71.195.219.67

Greg frowned when I showed him this website - not because he's not supportive, but it takes an enormous amount of time to keep up my fitness blog (http://jen-fit-training.blogspot.com/), my FB Fan Page (www.facebook.com/recipesforgals), complete me meal plans for all the wonderful ladies I have the privilege of working with, and respond to the oodles of email questions I get about training and nutrition. I WANT to do this because I want to connect with elite runners - those who I aspire to be - but I feel so tapped. :) xoxoxoox

From Lily on Tue, Apr 05, 2011 at 14:43:54 from 67.199.178.210

I know Jen....I know. I am a busy Momma and I don't even work a job besides wife and Mom. But I am super busy so I know how you feel. It's one more thing. I have found that if I hurry and log in first thing home from my run and log my miles and a few words that it is easier and then I don't worry the rest of the day. I really like this sight. There are many Utah elites on here and people are very supportive. I love being able to track my miles by week, month and year. I love tracking my shoe mileage and the general hub bub with the other bloggers. I have gotten the best advice on all fronts with running from other bloggers as well. Just do what you can girl.

Burt is kinda responsible for my break out in races the last year. He encouraged me to run more races last Spring and see how I stack up. I did, and it unleashed an animal haha. True story!

From Jen-Fit on Tue, Apr 05, 2011 at 14:47:59 from 71.195.219.67

Sold. :) xoxoxo I need to spend more time though to figure out where I log my shoe miles. That I haven't figured out yet. And I want to track all the different fields on my blog, but honestly I don't even know what half of them are or how to track them. My goal on here? Network with the best, learn from the best, and become one of the best. **wink**

From Lily on Tue, Apr 05, 2011 at 14:53:47 from 67.199.178.210

Too add you shoes just go to the top and hit edit my blog. Then go to the left side of the page and on that list it should say 'shoe manager'. There you can add each shoe.

Then tomorrow or then next day, when you log in to enter in your mileage, there will be your shoes to add that days mileage onto as well. Hope that helps.

Hey Lily. Remember that time Jen said she was going to check out my blog, then she saw a picture of me with a wedgie and she never blogged again? Good times.

From Burt on Fri, Apr 08, 2011 at 15:55:51 from 206.19.214.144

I am oh my gosh. I was telling Lily I am so stocked up with work right now, getting ready for Boston, and keeping up my FB Fan Page I feel it's never ending. :) Lots of good stuff happening though. Hopefully today after taxes (that's what I am getting ready for right now) life will calm down so I can soak in some of your "fastness".

Friday I hit the gym as I have been lately being my runs have reduced. I finished it off with an easy 3 on the treadmill - if running on the treadmill can be easy. **smil**

Yesterday was my last "longer" run. I was scheduled for 8. I meant to keep my pace slower (which I know for many of you as you look at this time think it's turtle slow), but I meant to keep it around 9 or 9:15, but I have a hard time slowing down. My tendency is to go faster. I'm hoping that is a sign of what's to come. Though I'm nowhere near as fast as many, I have seen huge improvements in my speed since I first started. When I think of my first 5k being just above 27 minutes (which for me was absolutely huge) three years ago, I'm happy to know I've shaved off 3 1/2 minutes. I'd love to get to the point where I could run a 7-7 1/2 minute mile for a 5k.

Anyway that's the beside the point. I'm leaving for Boston this Friday, and I am more nervous than I have ever been about any other race. I know I've done this before, but I've never done Boston. This taper is making me crazy in the head too. It's making me second guess my training, whether I did enough, whether I ran enough hills, everything. It makes me hope that I have it in me come race day and that its a good running day and not a bad one. It makes me hope that being a female its the right time of the you know what come race day (which right now I'm still waiting). It makes me wonder and second guess a lot of things.

I know I'm not going to for my own personal best time. I want to enjoy everything, but I do want to go for a respectable time, and that's what I'm scared of. I don't want to be among the world's elite and totally blow it.

Wish me luck. I don't know how often I'll be on this week, and I do hope going forward I'll be better about logging my info. I really want to use this blog as a tool to track my progress and learn from the best - you. I'm no dummy, and I realize I'm a student of many.

xo Jen

One week. That's it. Holy cow. This morning I hit the gym to work on delts. I trained them hard knowing it will be the last time for a couple of weeks til I'm able to focus on them again. Speaking of which I really don't have any focus on much of anything right now. Can't stop thinking of Boston. Yikes. Anyway, enjoyed a 3 mile run on the treadmill as part of my taper. Also posted on Kara Goucher's FB page about whether I should go for time or enjoy the race... she told me to save the PR for another time and to enjoy the experience. Done. **smile**

I definitely agree with Kara....boston is such an amazing race but enjoy it rather than trying to kill yourself. You can always PR on another race! Congrats on qualifying! So awesome!!

I just decided this morning I am going to try and get in for next year. I qualified during Boston again, but due to some health concerns, I didn't know if I would actually go for it again. I figure it's a privilege. I'm going to try.

From Keri on Mon, Aug 29, 2011 at 17:35:10 from 174.23.175.204

That's hilarious!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I had a few friends run it this last year. I'm sad I couldn't go with them. Congrats on doing it then... he he :)
